Are There Any Natural Cures For Depression

The issue of how to deal with depression is more important than you might think. I recently wrote to you on the subject of male depression because it is such an unrecognized but serious issue. The World Health Organization has predicted that by the year 2030, more people will be affected by depression than any other health problem. Not good news.

We've explored why men are at risk:

  • Their symptoms are different from women's
  • Their coping behaviors are aggressive
  • It's currently taboo for men to admit being depressed

Still, 6 million men per year are diagnosed with depression - that we know of - and the numbers are growing.

Which begs the question of just how to deal with depression. Are there any natural cures for depression? Is there anything you can do on your own besides taking anti-depressant drugs?

Actually, there are.

The Nutritional Approach

It only makes sense that your body may be craving nutrients it needs - nutrients that can be therapeutic in how to deal with depression. Here are some remedies that studies have shown to be helpful:

  • St. John's Wort: this remedy has long been used in Europe, especially Germany, as a mood elevator. Studies have shown it to be more effective than a placebo although it takes a number of weeks before it begins to take effect.
  • B Vitamins. A good supply will increase the efficacy of prescription antidepressants. Folic acid and vitamin B6 are helpful in cases of mild depression
  • Vitamin D: There is a definite link between this "sunshine vitamin" and depression, especially if you live in an area where the days are shorter in the winter months.
  • Omega 3s. These fatty acids found in fish oil are an excellent source of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an essential fatty acid found in nerve and brain tissue. Normal levels relieve mild to moderate depression.
  • SAMe. This synthetic version of S-adenosyl-L-methionine (say that three times fast!) proved to be an effective natural antidepressant, "superior to a placebo" when it was reported on in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition by Harvard Researchers. It also worked more quickly than St. John's Wort.

The Lifestyle Approach

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 20 years, you know that how you take care of yourself on an everyday basis (food/exercise/daily habits) determines a large part of your overall health. Consider:

  • Sunlight and Light Therapy. No doubt about it, sunshine is good for your health. Many people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) when the days grow shorter in the winter months of the year. Sleep, productivity and state of mind are all affected when more of the day is dark than light. Phytotherapy, which uses light boxes of full-spectrum light to simulate sunlight is very effective in combating seasonal depression
  • Anti-Inflammatory Diet. This is basically a healthy diet of lean proteins, plus fresh fruits and vegetables, while limiting refined carbohydrates. Adding a source of omega 3s from fish or fish oil supplements is key. Keeping your body in balance helps alleviate depression and many other illnesses attributed to lifestyle.
  • Aerobic Exercise. Numerous studies point to regular aerobic exercise for relief of depression. 30 minutes, 5 days a week will boost your mood and your self-confidence.

The Alternative Approach

  • Massage. A good massage works the kinks out of your body and increases the production of endorphins, feel-good compounds that give you a sense of well-being.
  • Accupunture. This may make you think merely of those tiny needles used for treatment, but there's a reason the Chinese have been using acupuncture for centuries. Research confirms it prompts the body to produce chemicals that decrease or eliminate pain. The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture as effective in relieving mild to moderate depression.
  • Meditation/Relaxation. Learning to calm yourself helps tremendously with agitated behaviors, which is a major factor in male depression. Decreasing muscle tension translates to lower blood pressure and less production of cortisol, the stress hormone.

Traditional Medicine

Don't dismiss the role of pharmaceuticals in treating moderate to severe depression. Many, many years and millions of dollars have gone into the research of how to deal with depression on a physiological level. While you may hate the thought of such treatment, there are valid chemical reasons why anti-depressants can relieve depressive symptoms.

Often, a combination of pharmaceutical and natural treatments will be the most effective solution for how to deal with depression. Your body does not operate in a vacuum. Rather, all systems work together, affect each other and combine to make a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Male depression is serious, but it is very treatable. If you recognize a problem in yourself or someone you know, this health alert is for you.

Please consult your personal physician before making any changes at all to your diet, exercise and supplement program.

  5. QUESTION:
Any natural cures for severe depression?
I've been severely depressed for 6 years, and have several other mental illnesses (Appearance perfectionism, AVPD, and anorexia). I'm extremely behind on my school work, and I don't have a single friend that's not on the internet. My doctor keeps recommending therapy and telling my mom that I'm depressed, and I've told my mom that I'm very depressed and should be at least taking medication but she doesn't listen (she's not a horrible person, she's just in denial). I can't get any kind of help without my moms support so I was wondering if there were any natural cures for depression. Exercise does make me feel a little better, but the effects don't last long and I still don't feel like a normal person after wards. I've also read about B-vitamins but I'm not sure if they can actually help with depression, or if they would only lift my mood if I was normal.

    I'd appreciate any help.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi dear,
You can try Siberian ginseng, Valerian, Passionflower, St John's Wort, Kava, 5-HTP, GABA, Vitamin Bs, Vitamin C, magnesium, zinc.
You can buy books on natural cures over the internet. Those herbs and medicine (natural) that I mentioned are available in a pharmacy.
Exercising does help. Go into the sunshine for half an hour at least each day. Try the early morning sun and evening sun.
Eat very healthily and drink lots of water. Listen to soothing music. Try to make friends.
YOu may like to attend a United Pentecostal Church for healing services. You can try Jesus. He loves you and cares for you. i pray to survive and to be happy. To hear Jesus' voice is such a satisfaction for me. Jesus wants you to talk to him and he wants to save you.

      God bless you.

  6. QUESTION:
    Suffering with depression. Natural cures?
I have been suffering with depression for several years. I haven't been taking medication for it and without it I'm finding it harder and harder to get out of bed and make it through the day. Is there any natural things I could take to lessen my depression or help me cope with it better? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
I certainly DO wish there were "natural" remedies to depression, but there really is nothing out there that has much research based evidence to demonstrate efficacy in even "mild" depression. Probably the most common over-the-counter and "natural" treatment would be St. John's Wort. Still, there is little evidence that it works very well at all, and in very loosely conducted trials.

You really should discuss this with your doctor or provider of care. There may be a lot of prescribed medications that could prove to be very effective for you, and improve your quality of life. Give it some thought, then make an appointment.

      Best of luck!!

    • ANSWER:
Medication, talk therapy, exercise, & good diet. You need to see a psychiatrist & be evaluated. Trust me I worked helping people with mental illnesses for years. There is no shame asking for help! Support groups always help, you'll find many others that are having the same feelings. I know 100's of people with the same symptoms as you have & it IS treatable, & it IS possible to live a good life again. All clinical studies show the best treatment is medication in conjunction with talk therapy.Good luck. Go to a Dr. & check if you have a sleep disorder also. Diabetes can also be a factor with your symptoms. You need to see a Dr. & don't be afraid to get a 2nd opinion.

  8. QUESTION:
Are there any more natural remedies for depression besides, Kava-Kava, St. Johns Wort and Saffron?
I'm trying to throw away my psych meds and I need a natural cure.

    • ANSWER:
Yes absolutley, The most natural remedy is your mind and the strength of it.
Just as your body needs exercise so does your mind.
Keep yourself occupied when feeling depressed.
look up in the sky when you feel a bout coming on.
Learn to recognize depression for what it is.....
It is only an emotion you must learn to control...
Emotions can hurt you only if you allow them to...
Every one gets depressed ...some let it go to a point where it causes one to inflict harm on themselves.
As it is an emotion and only that you can and must realize it for what it is and make a consious descision to control it and not let it control you.
      That is the exercise.
You must work out just as you work out with weights or in the gym.
Always keep in mind that it is only a feeling and it will pass it is uncomfortable at the time but it does go away and harming yourself for relief is not the way. Control it and it will pass.
There is a chemical reason for its increase and progression but that is brought on by the mind not controlling the emotion. It will feed itself if you allow it.
Do not throw away the meds immediatly as the sudden shock to your system could worsen your situation. Tell your Doctor what your trying to do and work with him or her.
But you must first come to the reality of your affliction.

  10. QUESTION:
Natural cures and philosophies for depression?
I know that my depression is a culmination of my entire life, meaning outside factors other than what is just going on with my brain chemistry. That being said, I would love it to be easier to accept the difficulties in my life. I have no real family and no real friends. Obviously I would love to get out there and make a good, whole life for myself but I've always been quite shy. Becoming depressed has just made my shyness crippling and made me have no hope for ever establishing the life I see for myself in my dreams. The problem I have with medication is that I want to be natural and not have to worry about substances in my body for long periods of time. Plus, I'm only 18 and I don't want to become suicidal as I've heard that Prozac often does this to people of my age...And if I want to get off of it I don't want it to mess up my head even more...Are there any excercises, natural cures, philosophical approaches that you could share with me for overcoming depression?

    • ANSWER:

  11. QUESTION:
Does anyone know of any Natural remedy for depression?
I believe i have been suffering from depression for some time due to early teen use of marijuana and alcohol. I read that this causes the brain to have trouble producing dopamine or seratonin. Because of this I have lost more and more the ability to get excited or happy about anything and I cant remember the last time I laughed. I have no energy or reaction to things around me like im lost in my own world. I really want to feel better I want my energy levels to be much higher and I want to have a sense of well-being but I am not into prescription medications or Therapy. I believe there are natural cures for what the body lacks so if anyone knows about natural medecines to help the brain produce seratonin or dopamine and that give an energy boost I would be so grateful to hear it Thanks!
Just needed to mention I have tried prayer I have asked God to help me get through this and give me strength and patience and to forgive me for certain sins but i still feel terrible and at the end of the day lately i have this headache that feels like a migrane from all the racing thoughts :-(
WOW! I just have to say thank you so much to all of you for your great suggestions! I especially love the one from Fergus (who doesnt allow e-mail so ill say it here)about the epsom salts because i am a big believer in natural medecine and internal cleanse but i had no idea it could help depression....a friend of mine once told me that an enema is good but taking the salts orally sounds more appealing to me :-) Thanks! I will definitley try it asap!!!

    • ANSWER:
The quickest and most effective solution I know of is epsom salts (magnesium sulphate - available at most supermarkets). A century ago this was known as "a dose of the salts" and was a regular (often weekly) dose for children - adults, too. They will flush your intestines out swiftly, and along with all the crap will go most of the negative thoughts.

I use this regularly with clients who ring up reporting suicidal thoughts where I can't get to them or they can't get to me.

In most cases they are back in touch within 30 minutes saying something like "I can't believe it, I feel normal again".

Directions: Take 1 tablespoon of Epsom salts in a small glass of warm water mix well and swig it down as fast as you can (you wont want it to linger on your taste buds). Then drink 1-
1/2 to 2 litres of water (as much as you can) straight after. This is best done on a
reasonably empty stomach - at least 4 hours without food - you can have juices or water in this period. Don't stray too far from a toilet until the flushing has become apparent.

  12. QUESTION:
    Natural treatments for depression?
Apart from exercise and talking to people are there any other natural cures for depression e.g. food etc.

    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
Identify the cause, if possible. Was there a triggering event? If so, it is probably reactive (situational) depression: counselling, psychotherapy, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is indicated. Or, was it a more gradual thing, with no apparent cause? (a nutritional deficiency, hypothyroidism, environmental toxicity, or reactions to some medications, such as Advil etc., becomes more likely as the cause). Antidepressants work quicker than the following; 2 - 6 weeks, but you may have to adjust dosage, or types. St. John's Wort helps most people; tolerance doesn't develop, and the few side effects don't occur often, and even then are normally not severe (neither antidepressants, nor the wort, nor supplements should be relied on as a sole treatment). It doesn't cause sleeping problems, or weight change, and usually takes at least 2, and generally 4 - 6 weeks to become effective, but can sometimes work quicker than antidepressants. See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10759336?dopt=Abstract A recent, independent German double blind study showed it to be as effective as a commonly prescribed antidepressant, in cases of major depression, with far fewer side effects, and those were generally better tolerated, with a lower rate of discontinuation. Unlike antidepressants, where sexual dysfunction is a common side effect, it is far less of a problem with SJW. A multidimensional approach to treating depression without medication follows. All except for no. (7.) are safe to use with medication, but not SJW, because of interactions, and it's sensible to check out anything else first, like Ginkgo Biloba, Gotu Kola, or supplements, such as SAMe, 5-htp, or L-phenylalanine, with your doctor.

(1.) Take at least 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it! In the winter months, if not getting sufficient daily exposure to strong light, see http://drbenkim.com/vitamin-d-facts.htm & http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/12/16/my-one-hour-vitamin-d-lecture-to-clear-up-all-your-confusion-on-this-vital-nutrient.aspx Go to a doctor and ask for a 25(OH)D, also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D, blood test. When you get the results, don’t follow the typical “normal” reference range, as these are too low. The OPTIMAL value that you’re looking for is 45-52 ng/ml (115-128 nmol/l)". The company which tests your levels has to be one of those using the correct form of test, and this topic is addressed via the searchbar at Mercola.com - "vitamin D3; testing". Also take a vitamin B complex which is certified as being 100% of natural origin; the deficiency in vitamin B9 (folate, or folic acid) that most depressed people have, is known to cause depression. Around 30% - 40% of depressed people have low vitamin B12 levels. (2.) Work up slowly to at least 20 minutes of daily exercise, or 30 - 60 mns, 5 times weekly in daytime, outside. Too much exercise can cause stress; unwanted when dealing with depression. (3.) Occupational therapy (keeping busy allows little time for unproductive introspection, and keeps mental activity out of less desirable areas of the brain).

(4.) Practice a relaxation method, daily, and when needed, such as: (free) http://www.drcoxconsulting.com/managing-stress.html or http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/mindbody/a/Meditation.htm or http://www.wikihow.com/Meditate or Yoga Nidra, (no flexibility required) at http://your-mental-health.8m.com/blank_11.html Tai Chi, Qi Gong, or yoga. Give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. It is free via the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com "EFT" & "EFT therapists" - Professional is best. There is a version for use in public places, (you could claim to have a headache, as you use the acupressuremassage/tapping on your temples. (5.) Initially, at least, some form of psychotherapy or counselling; later, perhaps either Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy, (a free E course in it, which may well reduce the time needed in therapy, as should *, & ** is at: http://ecouch.anu.edu.au/welcome ) or Rational Emotive Behavio(u)ral Therapy for up to 6 months. (6.) Maintain a mood chart, and daily activities schedule**. (7.) As options, if desired, either a known, effective herbal remedy, such as St. John's wort, (get a German variety, if possible; local ones may vary in effectiveness. Perika, Jarsin, and Kira brands have been recommended as being effective. Take with a meal), Supplements, such as SAMe, 5-htp, L-phenylalanine: see: http://www.indepression.com/depression-natural-remedy.html (from vitamin and health food stores, some supermarkets have old/inferior types, or mail order: Google: " ... ; supplies"), St. John's Wort, etc. 80% of people in the Western world have low magnesium levels; which can cause depression.

  13. QUESTION:
    natural cure for depression?
i always thought i might've had some kind of depression. But i've been lookig into it for over three going on four years now, and im pretty sure ive got something. However, i really dont want to be on medication, and id rather not worry my family with it. Is there any natural ways without medication i can be less of a constant downer??? Help is really appreciated. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
It depends on how you're using the word "cure". There are plenty of natural ways to help relieve symptoms of depression; and there are definitely ways of permanently overcoming depression without prescription medication. That said, I'm not aware of any product that can be referred to as a "cure" for anxiety. Any product that making the following claims: "100% effective", "No Side Effects", "100% Cure" should raise some serious red flags.

I have a number of friends that have found success with Amoryn. It's an all-natural supplement designed to help significantly reduce symptoms of depression. Amoryn's formula contains both 5-HTP and St. John's Wort, among other ingredients. You can learn more about Amoryn at http://www.amoryn.com/advantage.html - This site actually has a lot of great info.

If you're looking for a St. John's Wort product. It's my understanding that you need to find one that's been standardized for hyperforin. This is main active component responsible for reducing symptoms of depression. Here's a link to a clinical research study published in a reputable medical journal discussing the topic - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15492771

Another great resource is the Kelly's St. John's Wort Blog - http://www.sjwinfo.org/

Try Google-ing "Natural Depression Supplement" - It seems like there's some good info there about how to naturally overcome depression symptoms without prescription medications.

Start there and continue learning about different alternatives. Everyone's different, so the best long-term approach is to continuing to educate yourself and find what works best for you.

Hopefully this information is of some help. All the best!

  14. QUESTION:
Are there any verses in the Bible that speak out against using anti-depressant drugs?
I don't want my relatives to take anti-depressants. My aunt takes them and I don't like that because I feel that God created natural cures for the physical symptoms of depression and spiritual cures for the mental part. I think the drugs interfere with people's relationship with God. I don't think people will believe me though unless I have Bible verses. Thanks for your help

    • ANSWER:
stay the f*ck away from your aunt for her sake.

  15. QUESTION:
What are some natural remedies and cures for depression?
Hello there. I've gone through cycles of mild depression throughout my life, mostly brought on by negative events that have taken place during those periods. I once went through a depression as a young teen, got out of it for many years, and have recently found myself depressed once again as a young adult. I don't know exactly why or how it went away before...it sort of "passed". My depression isn't extreme (manic depressive/suicidal) or anything of that sort-- I'm just generally really down feeling, unmotivated (I sleep a lot and lay around), and have began to isolate myself from others. I'm becoming lethargic almost and I dwell a lot on the past and have feelings of unnecessary guilt.

I do not believe in medicine for the treatment of depression (except in extreme cases) and I'm looking for natural remedies and ways to get out of this rut. Any advice is extremely appreciated! :) xoxo

see my answer here about the food, books and omega three fats.

Also try to change your thinking. Use positive affirmations that contradict the usual tapes you place in your head. Practice being grateful. Make a journal writing down good things about yourself and compliments people give you. Focus consciously on the positive Read the book excuse me your life is waiting for a great book on the law of attraction. Listen to music you love and uplifting music and get outside a lot in nature. in what things you liked as a child and do these things. Think what things are fun and make you feel good and do more or that. Talk to a crisis line when upset about somethings just type your state into google and the words crisis line.

My son is trying to help me think more positive..every time I catch myself thinking negative. I am to stop and reverse the thought and say the opposite 10 times.

For instance if I say/think life sucks I then says my life is great or I love my life or life is a wonderful gift (always say in in the positive not the negative like like does not suck as the mind discounts the not and sees it as life sucks it is thought./ If you say I feel crappy stop and ten life say I feel fantastic. or instead of saying I feel unmotivated think (and better yet force yourself to feel it too) I am constantly motivated or I love doing all kinds of things or life is too short to waste sleeping., I have things to do. Say I love people and being around them..people love me. I attract many friends and love it and stuff like that. When you find yourself thinking about the past say stop that..today is a new day..or my great future makes my past unimportant. Say I am proud of myself. Fix the things that may have made you feel guilty..make amends or whatever and then say..God washes away my guilt. I am made new and can start over. Thanks goodness I can do my future better, Stuff like that.

Make a list of the top 10 things that are negative you say that you want change once you get those better do 10 new ones or add some.

urse, etc and read them often the more the better.

whenever you catch yourself thinking something a depressed person would think or anything negative or anxious etc, reverse it and say it ten times aloud or in your head..eventually you will change your tapes. When we are depressed we think negative and when we think negative we can create depression in a vicious cycle..by changing one of these we can change the cycle.Changing depression improves negative thinking so why wouldn't changing negative thinking improve depression. a chemical imbalance can cause negative thinking but I think positive thinking can change the body as well.

Attack it from both sides the raw foods and omega three fats etc in the other answer, the info on nutritional and behavioral things in those books I mention at that answer I linked too, and this stuff and you have true hope.

Check out depression testimonies on the site hacres.com I was just reading them actually (under the education tab just type in depression and any other illnesses)

Also take a notebook with areas of your life lhacreslationships, health, work, recreation, money etc and think what things and goals can you make on these things to improve your life

It is completely great you do not want meds as these I have read can cause permanent brain damage. I took them for 15 years and was intensely suicidal nearly every day..when I quit all that as soon as itmedst my body I was not suicidal for 8 years even though depression remained and continual problems. I shudder to think what damage these antidepressants drugs did to me..I feel I will never be the person I once was. I wonder how many people killed themselves who were on these drugs when the drug companies hid the reports of increased suicides, homicides and exacerbated depression.

A study of two groups of depressed people showed those getting the ssri antidepressant drugs killed themselves more and had more suicidal thoughts and exacerbated depression than the control group of depressed people taking NOTHING.ssrid the books by peter breggen like your drug could be your problem, toxic psychiatry etc. many libraries have these or amazon..read them before ever taking any brain drug

The mind is verbreggenful..I used to say I never get sick and I never did..the whole family could be dropping like flies and I would not get the flu or whatever, But I always say life sucks, I hate life, I'm depressed and you know it does suck, I hate it and I am depressed so I am trying to stop saying this stuff and see what happens. I feel it will help whether through self fulfilling prophecy, law of attractions..heck I guess even the placebo effect works on the mind's power of belief or disbelief.

But in addition be sure to at least look at that I wrote on fats and the brain and omega three fats in particular found here

      http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=At1RdwR44xFmaSJLgVtAGdrsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100726210554AAlXpNG&show=7#profile-info-9KF5nciyaa

I have suffered severe clinical depression for 35 years..I know stuff I just don't do what I know...this year I am making progress becoming a vegan, eating mnciyaaw food, exercising, eating healthier, and doing these goals and affirmations. Not perfect but something..today I remembered to put a tbs of chia seeds on my salad for the omega threes. Making some progress helps.

I did notice a definite lifting of mood and a feeling of happiness when I first gave up animals last year. I have had one of the hardest years ever. Just this week have been a nightmare but I think I am getting tot he point that the misery is motivating me to freaking do something instead of this continued suffering...make that these interesting challenges of this week that I am gonna conquer. full steam ahead :)

  16. QUESTION:
How can I get rid of depression without medications?
So, I have been in a steadily declining depression for a while now. I think it began when I lost interest in video games and then it spread out to other things. Pretty much everything that I once found exciting are now boring. I'm sick and tired of living this monotonous life and want genuine feelings of happiness back in albeit without medications since I don't want to tell my folks about this.

When I was little, I was often passionate. I thought almost anything was interesting. I was indeed happy. But, as I got older, things became less and less interesting until becoming very weak as it is now. I discussed this with my brother who responded that this is life when you grow up and I sincerely hope he is wrong.

Perhaps the reason is due to my lack of exercise? Back when I was little (which I even call my "golden age" due to the fact that I was at my happiest in this time), I was forced into sports clubs. While I didn't like them, they probably paid off for the sake of happiness. Recently, I have been excuses out of PE (Physical Education) classes when I said that I didn't like doing it. While I would not want to go back doing the subject, this move may have fuelled my depression due to the fact that I no longer exercise. But, I hate exercise. It's tiring and there's that sharp, lingering pain in your neck which happens to be a rapidly beating pulse. It's not my thing.

I spend all day on my laptop, which other family members use as well but not as much as me. Which, combined with my lack of exercise, caused my depression. I am not that one dimensional of an individual. I do have aspiring dreams like exploring the world, meeting and joining the love of my life, being an innovator, etc. But, we live in reality and these are difficult let alone impossible to come by. I drown my depression on junk food as I have them for more on pleasure than nutrition.

In short, a natural cure on Depression, please? Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
Cognitive Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy have been demonstrated to work for depression, but to be sure it really is depression, I'd recommend you see your doctor for a diagnosis first. As for exercise, I feel the same way you do.

    • ANSWER:
I don't know what book your talking about. Is the name of the book Natural Cures? Or is the name Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About? Or is it More Natural Cures? If your looking for answers to health question I would suggest buying a book called Nutritional Almanac. It has lots of general health information, remedies and reference material. It was written by a group of doctors who included a broad scope of information. You can learn about herbs, ayurvedic, supplements and more. They list symptoms and remedies. Originally it was written as a reference book for diet analysis. This book will help you get the facts, not the fantasy. I use it as my health bible. It has everything I need to do research on symptoms.

    • ANSWER:
There have actually been a lot of studies that have shown that Fish Oil can help with ADD/ADHD. It seems too simple, and that may be one reason it wasn't really looked at closely for this, but I wasn't surprised it would help when I thought about it. The EPA and DHA in Fish Oil help with all sorts of things including heart health, skin health, and brain health. There was a good article at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-391503/Fish-oil-calms-children-better-Ritalin.html that covers some of this as well.
Give it a try... it's economical, safe, and easy. Just make sure that the company you get it from uses Molecular Distillation because that's currently the only safe way to remove any trace contaminants of any heavy metals. Of course, if you aren't sure about the dosage or the benefits, you may want to consult with a holistic doctor, as they may have other additional options available to them.

There are also a lot of people who have found some relief from limiting sugar, artificial colors/flavorings, and going with less (or no) processed food to take away those possible causes as well. From research I've done, Fish Oil tends to help more, but both work even better together. Good luck and I hope I helped!

  20. QUESTION:
PMS is ruining my life! Help...natural remedies or cures?
I just feel like life can't go on when I have my 2 weeks of PMS. It's not even the physical that I can't deal with..it's these feelings of craziness and depression..I just want to burst into tears.

I don't want to take medicine because I think that's what has messed me up so much already..and birth control isn't an option because it makes me feel like I am PMSing times ten...I feel like suicidal on it.

Have any of you women tried natural remedies that worked? I keep hearing about apple cider vinegar and different stuff. I don't have health insurance and I am praying there is someone..just ONE woman out there..that can tell me a natural cure..or at least something that helps a bit because I just feel SO low about myself during this time of the month...........my bf doesn't completely understand but he does try. He thinks sometimes that it's just in my mind and that I just have to pray and try to think happy thoughts..and then I flip on him and curse him out and tell him that it's not like that..and I feel bad for doing it afterwards because he has no idea.

    • ANSWER:
Don't fight the depression, the more you try to fight it the angrier and more anxious you get and you will tend to focus on your mood more. The best way to start to get better is to learn about the illness and how the way you think can affect it. Try to get fresh air every day, even if you only open a window. in winter a SAD lamp should help. Gentle exercise a few mins a day will help your mood even if its a walk down the garden and back. Volunteering at an animal shelter ( just grooming or cuddling nervous animals) will again help. Read self hypnosis and other Cognitive behavioural books, learn relaxation and maybe ask someone to help you with this or to just listen to you when you need it. I was told change your thoughts and you change your world. When in despair on waking just think 'another day closer to getting through it', cause if you don't go through it you can't come out of the other side of the depression. All illness have a start, middle and an end. You are at your turning point with your suicidal thoughts. just know that you are strong enough to recognise these thoughts and they are the start of you getting better, by allowing it to happen, you will eventually allow it to pass. Please look after yourself and I hope you start to feel on the road to your recovery soon. All the best.

  22. QUESTION:
Is there a natural cure for overactive thyroid?
I've had a thyroid problem ever since I was a kid and my doctor had me on this thyroid medication, but I stopped taking them a long time ago because I didn't feel any different with or without them. I'm 18 now and I've noticed my symptoms have worsened: I am anxious, depression is always on and off everyday, I have memory loss or I can't think straight like the way I used to or sometimes I will talk backwards XD, also people with overactive thyroid have a slower metabolism, and my hands and feet are usually cold. I'm just a bit worried that it might get worse and I haven't seen a doctor in about 2 years or more because I know that they are just going to prescribe me medications again (and I personally don't believe in medications) that's why I am looking for a natural way to cure or slow down my thyroid, something that actually works.

    • ANSWER:
Alternative treatments offer a wide variety of methods to help maintain balance in the body, for example homeopathy, acupuncture, physical medicine and massage. They have been used for centuries, and now more than ever before, the Western community is embracing this holistic approach of healthcare.

This holistic approach addresses not only the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, but they address the root cause and underlying problems and can help provide all-round support and natural health.

There are a number of herbal and homeopathic ingredients which may be of assistance without the negative side effects of prescription drugs. Some commonly used herbs traditionally used to calm the overactive thyroid include bugleweed (Lycopus virginica), lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) and motherwort (Leonuris cardica).

Natural remedies can also be investigated as part of a broader treatment plan. It is best to discuss these options with your doctor or consult a homeopath or naturopath for advice. Also, it is important to incorporate a healthy diet, exercise, meditation and other mind-body therapies to get the maximum benefit.

Details on the above can be had here http://www.healthherbsandnutrition.com/remedies/h/hyperthyroidism.htm

  23. QUESTION:
Are there any sort of vitamins that help reduce stress/anxiety?
I am having a lot of trouble with stress, depression and anxiety. Before getting put on wacko drugs, I want to try to cure myself with Earth's natural herbs and remedies. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you for your time!

    • ANSWER:
St. John’s Wort, Passionflower, are excellent herbs for depression, stress and anxiety. Certain tissue salts are also extremely effective as homeopathic brain and nerve tonics. They include natrium sulphate and kalium Phosphate.

It is known that our body rapidly uses up reserves of vitamin C when under stress. Good sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, blackcurrant, vegetables (broccoli, potatoes), red capsicums and chillies, strawberry, kiwifruit, rockmelon, orange juice and cranberry juice.

Vitamin B6 is believed to work in the brain similar to valium-like drugs - hence its importance in your diet as food or as supplement. Good dietary sources of vitamin B6 are chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon, shrimp, beef liver, lentils, soybeans, nuts, avocados, bananas, carrots, brown rice, bran, pulses, sunflower seeds, wheat germ, and whole-grain flour.

Avoid common food allergens are dairy, soy, citrus, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, fish, wheat, fish, eggs, corn, food colorings, and additives.

  24. QUESTION:
I have Generalized Anxiety, pure O/OCD and depression?
I'm 20. I'm genetically mentally restless and have a history of depression and ocd in the family, I have the physical condition called hyperhidrosis (excessive body gland sweating) I also suffer some symptoms of misophonia, hypochondria, PARANOIA and SAD. I know it sounds like many together but these are just symptoms, my real diagnosis was generealized anxiety and OCD/depression, but it's quite severe by now since the last time I went to the psychiatrist and got prescribed some meds. It's really hard to deal with this without medication.
I mean literally, my brain thinks non stop. And the pain is so much that it becomes physical. I have voluntary muscle contractions/nervous ticks due to my nervousness and constant anxiety. I wish I would put a stop on my brain, but mental ilnessess are one of those things you just can't control. I also have countless thoughts of guilt (religion- Good evil) racing through my head every hour and ocd at all times. It's gotten so bad I can barely sleep at night and if I do I will have nightmares all the time. I'm scared parts of my body will get out of place or that I will get physically hurt or anything gets dislocated in my body (hypochondria?) I have an unexplainable fear of dying.

What are possible remedies? Don't tell me exercise I've already tried it.
Are there natural cures like herbs or supplements? Anything to relax me, I would really hate to have to depend on medication for the rest of my life. This will kill my organs due to the chemical induced in them.

What kind of therapy can I take?

I'm currently not getting treated. I have no medical insurance and this is all too expensive.
Please, help me! And let me know if you suffer from any of these and if you're coping better with medication, what medication and what therapy?

Anyone wanna add me on MSN here's my email: sweetpie091@hotmail.com

  25. QUESTION:
    Lithium Orotate for depression?
NOT Lithium Carbonate!!! Lithium Orotate! Do you think there are natural cures for many illnesses that the AMA or FDA would never approve because they would never make any money. Imagine something naturally curing many of our diseases instead of paying hundreds of thousand of dollars. Do you think it is all about money instead of curing people?

    • ANSWER:
Lithium can be purchased over the counter at any nutrition store. It's a mood stabilizer.

And of course, it's money more then anything. Some of the best meds are the old ones and they're cheap. But you don't see them prescribed first- only last. I'm on one pill for my bipolar and it's an atypical medication primarily prescribed for blood pressure. It's cheap, too. It works better then anything else. Now my blood pressure pills, that's another story- the only thing that works for that is expensive and new- but I did try everything else first so I know.

I take policosanol and Omega 3's for my cholesterol and R-Lipoic acid for my type II diabetes. I know there are perfectly good alternatives out there. Oh, and my most disabling condition for years was my sleep problems and for that I now take homeopathic medications which work wonders, have no side effects, are cheap and can cure instead of just covering up symptoms.

I have overwhelming depression because of the way my engagement to my Fiancee went... after 7 years, she is now on heavy medication, dead as a person, with her mother that would beat her senseless as a kid... she cheated on me, and no one even believes we were together. You can't imagine.

I don't want to go on medication. I am afraid if they put me on it I will never be allowed to get off. And I am not mentally ill. My depression is caused by legitimate reason.

  31. QUESTION:
Is there any good treatment for aspergers? If there is are there any organizations I can help or donate to?
A bit of a life story but read on if you feel like it: Just out of curiosity I finally got diagnosed with it by a couple therapists I decided to see recently. I'm pretty socially inept but at the same time skilled or intelligent in some aspects and make rather good money as owner of a web/IT startup so I wouldn't call it completely disabling (maybe it has good sides) but I'm still curious if there is any cure for what I have?

But there are a LOT of bad sides. It really messed up my perception of others and myself back in middle and high school, absolutely killed my confidence, and everything. Had major depression issues and my story wasn't always successful. I had to climb out of a major rock bottom of horrible high school grades compared to my potential, dropped out of college, being jobless, hopeless, and alone compared to where I am today. Makes me appreciate a LOT more where I am today and I want to help others who have this.

I often wished I was blessed with natural social skills to go with skill, intelligence, etc but that is not the case but I'm okay with that now.

are there any natural cures for lyme? will probiotics help at all??

    • ANSWER:
Wow, okay. Let's talk about this. You have been diagnosed with depression and you say you haven't felt well over the last few years. You complain of fatigue, aches, pains, lightheadedness, etc.

What do you think is more likely? Physical effects of depression or lyme disease, which is extraordinarily rare. Yeah, I think you know the answer. Your depression is not being adequately treated, see your doctor.

  33. QUESTION:
Is there any time in the history of mankind when a culture of self-pity makes less sense than now?
Why is it that now, 500 years into the Scientific Revolution, a century after the discovery of pathogens as a cause to disease and 50 years after the cure of basically any disease other than viral or genetic, three decades into a phenomenon that brings instant social connections to literal shut-ins, in the richest and most prosperous country in the world, things like 'emo culture' and 'clinical depression' pop up?

Do humans have some sort of a natural craving for serious problems - so that if you take all the serious problems out of our lives, we tend to start making them up? Why, at the most prosperous and problem-free time in our history as a species and in the most fortunate nations in the world, do self-pity trends start popping up in all generations?

  34. QUESTION:
    Depression Advice??
I'm so tired of everything lately - the stress, my work, bills, college classes, housecleaning, etc. All I ever have time to do is work. I can't find any enjoyment in life anymore. Lately, while I'm driving home from work, I have very powerful urges to drive off the road or into a jersey wall or something.

I know I'm most likely suffering from depression. Many years ago, I was on Zoloft for depression for about 6 months. But this bout with it seems worse. And the side effects from the medicine were just awful then.

Has anyone had any positive results from other medications? If so, which ones?

Are there any other natural remedies to help cure this?

I'm just so sad and tired.

    Thanks for your help!

  35. QUESTION:
best way to cure depression naturally?
Are there any? Medication only seems to make me worse, I've tried multiple kinds and I'm finally recovering from their negative effects. Are there any natural things I could do to start getting satisfaction out of life and all the things I used to enjoy? I'm pretty deadset on not wanting to put anymore chemicals in my brain, looking for advice more along the lines of vitamins, foods, positive thinking and such.

Also any advice on recovering (socially) from this depressive stage in my life? I've been acting foolish and desperate all year, and now I can finally feel myself getting better, but I'm so ashamed of the way I've been acting its ridiculous.

Talk to your doctor. For some people, drugs work best.

If it were just a matter of positive thinking etc., you'd already be doing it.

  36. QUESTION:
    Depression - Will it go?
Hi. I'm a 19 year old college student currently on holiday. I have been depressed for about 2 months now. I was on 20mg of Citalopram for 6 weeks, and 30mg for 1 week. However I had been doing some research on SSRI's on the net, and the bad withdrawals.

Thus I started to look at more natural ways to cure this like buying a lightbox that I have been using in the morning for about 4 days, I have been taking fish oil capsules for about 2 weeks, exercising 3 times a week for 45 mins, eating healthily and have started taking l-tyorsine and 5-htp. I started taking them yesterday. Apparently they are meant to be effective, but it takes time.

I guess you could say at the moment, I feel like I did before. I had disrupted sleep last night, and I feel nackered today. I am a bit frustrated as all my efforts seem to be in vain at the moment. Is there any reason why this could last for years? My physcologist said it would be about 3 to 9 months. I just need some hope.

    Thanks,

    John T

Taking care of mom. with Alz., How would you deal with?
stress of the daily isolation of this? Dr's only want to give meds that make me sick, sleepy or just not myself. I must take care of her, this means breakfast, bathing ( rountine activties) So I'm thinking there must be another way b/c I can't help her if I'm sleeping and stuff!
Any ideals--person coming to house is out, she just freaks out!! Should I just let her freak out, I don't believe this is the way.
Has anyone dealt with this? Any natural vits. or cure for me (stress/depression) so I can do what I feel I must do?

    Thanks in advance!!

    • ANSWER:
It'is time for two things. One, talk with your closest friends and see if they can come and give you a hand. If you expose mom a little at a time to one or two people she used to know she may calm down. Second is the hard one to do, Is it time to have her taken care of by proffesionals. This does not mean that you are abandoning her. Even former pres. Reagan had to be professionally cared for. You need to care for yourself first or you will be sick and can care for no one. If your mother had a different kind of illness and had to go to a special facility you would not hesitate so keep that in mind.

I've had pretty bad depression/anxiety for quite a long time. I'm at a point where I want to cure it so badly NATURALLY. I hate taking drugs with side effects that mask the problem. But, the way I feel is pretty bad. Are there any success stories out there that involve curing suicidal/negative thoughts with just natural supplements? The thing is, I tried to go pill-free last summer and it was the absolute worst experience of my life. I would exercise and try everything in my right mind to be happy and calm, but it didn't work. I heard Effexor is known to pull people out of the dark. I tried it for a day once and it made me very irritable and angry. Should I try it again? I'm afraid I'll have to take meds for the rest of my life, and yes I know all about the withdrawal symptoms/side effects this drug brings. However, I barely even leave the house anymore. I'm so emotionless, don't even have the natural ability to laugh or smile, and just want myself back. Thanks. Top answer rewarded.

    • ANSWER:
I've taken just about every antidepressant out there. Effexor is the only one that ever did me any good and it's the only one that i'd take again. And yes, the withdrawal is terrible and you'll get it if you even miss a dose or two.

As far as supplements go, I've taken SAMe and had good luck with that in the past.

Of course, whether it's prescription or OTC, half of the effectiveness of anti depressants seems to be placebo effect anyway.

Lately, I've been going out walking for about an hour every evening. I get plenty of other types of excercise at work every day.. but there's something about going for a nice long walk that just seems to help. I recommend you try that before anything else.

  39. QUESTION:
    any thoughts on this?
I found this quite interesting. I think that is the reason there has not been a cure for homosexuality. Can you imagine what the media would do to a story like that? The public would go nuts if they found out that a cure for homosexuality was being worked on. Is it really that bad? Damn MTV and gay rights activists are so hellbent and proctecting the rights of gays and brainwashing them to think that it is completely natural and that it is OK. It is not OK. Homosexuality is the complete opposite of the natural human reproductive process. Humans are not supposed to be attracted to the same sex. Our bodies were designed perfectly for one male and one female. Homosexuality is a chemical imbalance in the brain (just like bi-polarity, depression, etc) and a cure should be researched. Of course it wont actually be worked on for a while, if ever, because of these brainless activists.

    Your thoughts?

  40. QUESTION:
How do you get more dopamine in the brain (not feel depressed)? (without drugs)?
Are there ways to get the chemical running through your brain which cures depression, naturally? I know they say exercise helps but it doesnt for me :( . I dont know why but when I exercise it doesnt make me feel good that im being active, I just feel more irritable because ALL I EVER feel like doing is nothing, because I dont have the energy for it. Will I be like this forever? I will see a doctor soon and get antidepressants, but are there any natural ways which get that chemical flowing as normal, naturally?

Why do people hate on Marijuana so bad?
"Make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere." -George Washington
"Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth & protection of the country." - Thomas Jefferson

Now if two of our founding fathers supported it, and our country was built off of there outlooks then why in the world do we outlaw it now? Well I guess the constitution is pretty much out of the picture...soo no surprises there.

Just to list some of the medicinal properties of this so called " drug-plant"

Its use for Anorexia, Asthma, Nausea, Pain, Peptic Ulcer, Alcoholism, Glaucoma, Epilepsy, Depression, Migraine, Anxiety, Inflammation,Hypertension, Insomnia, Cancer Interestingly, relief of many of the symptoms marijuana was used for in these illnesses are many of the same symptoms that have been proven in modern research. This should not be surprising unless we want to assume that all of the experience of thousands of years did not have some factual basis.

Anyone ever heard of MRSA? The only natural and reliable cure left on the planet is THC oil, The antibiotics used have to be constantly morphed and changed, because the virus is constantly evolving. Weed on the other hand stays the same.

SOO long story shot, everyone who hates on it and says that people who do smoke are nothing but ignorant and don't truly know any facts.
Well here in California its legal it has been for medical patients for years and were voting again to make it legal in November.

So no its not really illegal. Plus its WAY less harmfull than alcohol and that IS legal. Humm, whats wrong with this picture.

How many people a year die from alcohol?
And how many die from a pot overdose?
    Yeah that's what I though.

    • ANSWER:
Weed is fine, using it irresponsibly is not. I have never had a problem with controlling how often I smoke it, and don't even feel like it most of the time. I haven't smoked it for months because I feel I have better things to save up my money for, and better things to do with my time. People shouldn't try weed while completely ignorant about it, then complain when they use it too often and realize they don't do anything with their life anymore. That's there own fault, not weed's. I believe moderation and knowing about what you're getting into is the trick to not using it stupidly. That, and also thinking about and realizing the consequences of smoking it too much. Before I tried weed, I thoroughly studied it, both about the good and bad. I learned the laws where I am, found out where to get good weed, and smoked it with someone I trust. I have never done anything stupid while high from weed, other than eat a bit to much candy. From experience, I can say that being drunk is much more dangerous than being high on weed.

*EDIT* My dad has been smoking weed for close to forty years and is very, very far from being lazy, stupid, or uncaring.

  42. QUESTION:
Natural ways to raise serotonin levels?
Before I say anything, you should know that I've shown symptoms of depression since before I went to kindergarten. I've been on medications for almost ten years for both depression and a yet unclassified mental disorder (social phobia/anxiety, bipolar syndrome, ADD and Asperger's were the most mentioned candidates). About a year and a half ago I got tired of all the side effects (eighty pounds of fat!) and decided to harshly quit taking everything. To my surprise, most of my symptoms went away.

I've been happier than ever since then, but for the past two months or so my mood has been gradually going down. I was on a strict diet and exercise regimen to lose all of the gained weight and right now I am right in the middle of the healthy weight range for my height. I never had a single setback on my diet in the past year and a half, yet in the past two months it's happened too often. I feel very low in energy and the only thing that seems to cure that is eating a lot of food. Anything works: sweet snacks, salty snacks, and cooked meals. About a couple hours after eating I feel very, VERY hyperactive, at the opposite end in the mood scale than before I ate.

I went to the doctor to get a blood exam. Everything passed with normal levels and he specifically mentioned that I'm not anemic, which was my first guess. So now I'm guessing that I need the psychiatric medication again for depression, but I developed a phobia for those things after living the side effects. I figured I'd eat lots of chocolate because that is proven to raise serotinin levels, but that would make me fat again. Is there another way? Maybe there is an isolated form of the serotonin stimulant that found in chocolate?

Please help me. I don't have a job or any sort of responsibility so I can spend all day every day playing around with my diet to find something that works without side effects and that's exactly what I plan to do. I'm just hoping someone knows of anything that may help me. Maybe it's not even serotonin. If not, what else could it be?

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
The shift in time antidepressants work with, yeah, could be you need them. Or could be you need to stop medicating with food.

Antidepressants have some nasty side effects. I'm amazed you could even get off them. Were you on benzodiazepines? If so, I'm really amazed you could get off those.

You can take GABA. Nutrition store.

I believe there are serotonin releasers rather than reuptake inhibitors, but I haven't heard of those being prescribed much. Multivitamins, of course, and increase your exercise. That could burn you out, though.

Do you have anyone with whom you share your diet plans and all that? Someone to keep you on track? Rather than relying on actively thinking about your neurotransmitters, you could think less like a patient and more like a person.

I'm curious, though. I get a red flag any time I hear asperger's. Do you believe you have it?

  43. QUESTION:
    Why is weed illegal???????????????
There are so many benefits. It opens your mind. Can mkae you cope with any given situation. Makes you creative. Obviously abusing it causes side effects but using it moderately is fine and studies have shown it can even be benefitial. In some cases people have claimed it cured their depression. Weed isn't even a drug. A drug is manufactured from many other different substances. The substances are manufactured to get a desired outcome. Weed is a plant. It's 'natural'.

I suspect the reason it is illegal is because it opens your mind and frees your mind from society's hypnosis that we need all this money, etc. It's a form of control as weed is freedom. It's not for health. Cigarettes and alcahol are worse for your health than weed, but they're used for control aswell. Cigarettes are banned from being smoked in pubs and offices...why??? for health? No of course not...for control. We can still buy cigarettes, we just can't smoke them anywhere. Weed is illegal because the government does not want us to be free. that would be counter productive.

  44. QUESTION:
How do i get out of this depressed state?
24 yrs old im still depressed...this is my natural personality now but i guess i go though life unaware of it. Didnt relize it, until this girl at work told me "whats wrong why are u sad all the time?"....im thinking to myself ..."whats does she mean ive been acting myself?". So I relized being depressed is a state of mind...so i notice i have this rare ability to come out of depression I notice myself laughing and making others laugh...I can only attain this for 10min or so then revert back to my old quiet depressed self, this is not someone telling a joke and im ok this is a different state of mind that only happens with a trigger i can reuse the trigger but its hard to do the more times i use it. When i was 17-18 i was not depressed i was social and had friends, i was happy. Ive been trying to get that back ever since but why does my personality have to be naturaly depressing.Theres 2 things i hate about myself, ok physically 5'6" 130lbs this bothers me and my natural "depressed" personality bothers me. Now let me tell you when im out of the personality and im happy and in my better form, holy crap i am another person its like i have a unbreakable confidence in me, im happy comfortable with myself , positive and i make the real decisions that i want to happen. But my natural personailty sucks to high hell and i hate it, so this is it , there is a soultion to depression but its not the outside world that makes you depressed and im not talkin about a death in the family , im talking chronic depression over many many years, depression can be cured BUT ONLY if you can change the "state of mind" your in ( i can do this manually but its tough and only for minutes at a time) this kinda proves anti-depression pills are a joke and not the real cure to it, but ive been in this depressed state for so long it has now just become my "normal" personality that i hate", but the real me the me i love, If could be like that just 24/7, that would be great , like heaven on earth. So i hate this its very hard , sometimes the stress from trying to go back into the positive state is so bad i just want to end my life, its terrible. Ive put a loaded shotgun to my head twice i wasnt crying i wasnt breathing hard it was like putting a cellphone to my head or something cause i didnt care what it was, cause there was no fear at all, the safety was off... a round in the chamber and my finger on the trigger...kind of a rush but there is something that goes though your mind (this is the most selfish thing in the world) i would be putting everyone else though so much pain from this if i went though with it ....I cant do it =(. Im not writing this right after i did the shotgun thing it was maybe a few months ago but...its just a terrible life to live...maybe i should say this, i am attactive i know this alot of people think i am...ive been single for years ..i have never had any lasting relationship im talking longest maybe a month...so when i was 17-18 i on was on top of the world...i broke down a few months after highschool when i helped my dad move to alaska....then joined the air force and now im out , still depressed and im 24 i hope that it well end soon, thank you for reading this, ive never told anyone this side of me not even my family knows , what can u say to this... i dont even know what to say to it so hopefully i change i cant do anything else , god help -Michael

    • ANSWER:
I read everything and I almost feel like I am looking at myself. My depression was always there but I didn't realise it a year after my sister's death that I was really depressed. I suffer from bipolar disorder and was so in denial about being depressed for so long until I realised the manic and depressive moods I go through. I was told to seek medical help and that's when I realised how serious this actually was. The thing is I believe it's a state of mind also but the thing is you cannot just eliminate that without attacking or confronting the core of the problem. What you should be asking yourself is how did you get this way and why. You can only switch the states if you have confronted the thing that made you depressed in the first place. I have realised that my behaviours have stem from my sisters death and it has affected my relationships with so many people. It's not only that that I had to go through but people who you would think would support you weren't there for you. I was running away and now I'm paying the price. I am slowly dealing with every bit of thing in my life that makes me feel this way. I think you should too. Find out what is making you feel this way. You sound like a sincere and enthusiastic person but depressive moods can project otherwise. I hope my life story is some what of a help or encouragement to you.. I guess that's the only way I can help people. Please take care and I hope all works out for you.

  45. QUESTION:
How can I help get rid of acne once and for all? I don't want go in public anymore?
I'm 22 years old and the whole teenage acne stage should have been long gone. I don't know what is causing this other than the serious stress I have been under due to acne and the lack of self confidence I know how along with other things in my life. I drink a lot of water, I recently started taking zinc pills once a day to help with the redness and swelling. I have really tried every other the counter acne medications I can think of. I also tried proactive, murad etc..Murad worked for a while then stopped working. Proactive just made my skin worse all together. I have tried oxy, neutrogena, Clearasil which start helping and I can see difference within a week but then gets worse again. I am using Acne Free 3 step system now which I have been on for 2 1/2 weeks now. I worked the first few days and I did see a difference. Now my skin has broke out even worse. I have been trying to use natural products also such as egg white masks with Cinnamon which helps with my oily skin but doesn't help clear acne. At first my appearance was just affected by this and it was embarrassing. Now it is getting to the point where I don't want to go out in public and have no self confidence. It has along with other things changed me as a person. This isn't the only problem I am having in life but it is a big part. I don't want to live like this anymore and don't know what to do. I couldn't go to a dermatologist in the past because if financial issues and no insurance. I just now got insurance but can't get a dermatologist appointment until another month which I think is bull****. I know there are no overnight miracle cures. However, is there anything I can do to help eliminate the acne as soon as possible? I can't deal with this anymore because it's affected my life job, dating, basically anything dealing with the public and I hate myself because of it. I prefer natural products but I am willing to give anything a go right now. My skin has mostly broke out on my chin and lip area and some of the sides of my forehead. I also have been really red in the face and partially on the neck area. My skin also looks darker in some areas on the face like some sort of discoloration. I feel and look awful. I don't even want to go to work anymore. I know some will say wait it out until I see the doctor but I can't because it's botherhing me psychologically. Also I prefer not to get a prescription to accutine once I do see the doc because of the negative side effects it has along with depression. Anyway any help would be great. Any advice such as natural products, food to eat, things to drink, and products to use will be helpful.

    • ANSWER:
i think you will finally be happy with this product. i am 29 now and i had acne from age 13 to 25, and i felt the same way you did about i am way past those teen acne years, i am fed up and i just want this gone. so after it seemed like i have tried everything.
so then i tried tea tree oil.
I used tea tree oil and within a week my acne was pretty much gone except for a few spots here and there, which will fade soon too.
Tea tree oil can be used for any skin type even if you have very sensitive skin. And in that case I would dilute the oil with either water or aloe vera gel, which you can get at any drug store.
There are only two downsides to tea tree oil and that is that the smell is pretty strong, and it can dry out your face a little, which can be taken care of by using a moisturizer.
The oil can be found in any drugstore/grocery store/health store in the same isle as the finger nail polish remover for about . There are many different kinds but you can get whatever brand as long as it says 100% tea tree oil.
I would recommend putting it on at night before you go to sleep.
If you have any more questions there are many websites about this product, or feel free to ask me.

  46. QUESTION:
How does one become so cerebral, and what can be done to reverse it?
I may be cerebral now, but I never was. I used to be such the experiencer, a fun provider, a great believer, a passionate person, a very humorous person, a natural at many things... I used to actually LIVE - but now it just feels like it's ALL gone. Even if I try to do the things I used to be natural at or things I enjoy, I don't feel the enjoyment nor do I connect with anything anymore. For instance, I used to be such a natural at skating. I never feel free nor do I 'experience skating' when I'm skating. I used to be such a people person, very well-liked, popular everywhere I went, all very easily.. things that indicate I'm healthy - all because I was an experiencer, not the way I am now. Also remember feeling full of love, something that cures it all, and exists in my life - but I don't feel these days. I also never questioned my past or anything like it - always lived in the moment.

Anyway, something - something cerebral - that I can't quite sort out is causing this. I never experience life for what it is - my reality is clogged is the best way I can describe it. I never feel like myself. I write and I write and get nowhere close to being myself and enjoying life. Just being cerebral, or depression, I don't know. There aren't necessarily thoughts attached to the way I feel, but I do try to problem solve but there is nothing I can solve really... which I think has only made it worse. And it appears fear may have been integrated but I know it's only part of the illusion. I am not afraid to be myself - I in fact really like myself when I can be myself. I just never am able to feel that way and I have no clue why. It's time to start living again and stop being angry at myself for having let this continue for so long. But I don't know what to do since NOTHING I do helps. Any insight, GREATLY appreciated.

I know life is nowhere near this complicated. BUT, it feels that way for me, and it is that way for me no matter how much mental effort I use to combat it. It is easy to be happy and yourself, I know. I know the feeling. I've just never felt like that in the longest while. At this point I'm just overwhelmed by everything I used to be in the past, and the effortlessness of it...
I know, from this experience, that being able to EXPERIENCE, SELF-EXPRESS and LIVE are so crucial to my clarity and enjoyment of life, and also in helping others. Yes I've picked a few hobbies again but I'm not getting anywhere with them. That's what makes me think I may have a biological problem, because I've been like this for a while.

    • ANSWER:
I know that the day will come when you will realize the futility of all this. You will realize that you are not your mind and when you do the game will be over as you now know it. I know this and I don't have to think about it. Right now you are accustomed to thinking as a way of being because of the identification with the mind and the absorbtion into the thinking process. You have become one with the mind. There is great security in this and the mind itself which we will address as the ego for our purposes here likes to keep it that way. This part of who you are lives in fear of it's own non existance and through identification so do you below the level of your consciousness. This fear binds you and manifests as a fear of the unknown. How could you not be afraid to venture out without the security blanket provided by the ego? It would take a great deal of faith to just let go and trust Life as it is. It is a leap of faith to be sure but you do not have to jump until you are ready. It takes time. Your mind will not accept this. You must keep the faith. Your ego has a vested interest in the status quo.
Your ego is part of your consciousness. This is why you cannot fight it without feeding it. It is not the way. The ego is the shadow aspect of you who are the light. You must remember that the shadow dances according to the light. The light does not dance according to the shadow unless of course the shadow can convince you that you must dance. It is you who are convinced and it is no more than that. The energy of your light has given rise to the shadow. It is a reflection and an illusion created by the movement of the energy of your light. At deep levels and in a very real way you are afraid of your own shadow. Stripped down it really is this simple. Try to keep it simple. The complications are mind bourne and for the very same reasons I touched on above.
The when and where are far more important than the how and why. Here now is all you need to concern yourself with. Let your feelings guide you purely. When you filter the feeling (emotional energy) through the mind it will get distorted and your energy (emotional) will be used to feed the shadow. Your feelings of anger, sadness, joy etc are manifested out of emotional energy. These are outcomes. There are much subtler levels of emotional energy that emanate from your source of Being. The source is undifferentiated spiritual energy and it is whole. It is our fragmented selves that fragment this energy into polar opposites and this causes us to become split in terms of our perspective. Your ego is the result of the split. It has split off from the wholeness of your consciousness and your identification with it means you are also split. Your thinking process is also an outcome. You have two choices but there is only one path back to wholeness. Act from your Heart Center and direct your energy according to feeling and not thinking. You have unconciously been making the other choice and you know where it has led you. As you can see there is only one choice. It takes much faith. I realize this. I have experienced this. I tell you what I know because it is yours to know. Trust your Heart. Do you feel any of these words resonate in the wordless realms? This is subtle energy. You are feeling it. You don't need your mind to know these things I say are True do you? That voice never lies. That voice is your guide. You must merely begin to listen to it beyond the mental chatter that seeks to drown it out. This is your key. The Heart is the key. Remember this always.

  48. QUESTION:
Alcoholics, Professionals, Doctors, Anyone Please Help?
Don't answer this question if you can't be serious, or if you just don't know. This is a very severe situation & I don't have time to throw away. I have a very very dear friend that needs my help & anybody else that is familiar or very knowledgeable of this situation. My friend is in his mid 30's, he weighs around 170 pounds. He is a very hard worker for a machine shop working long hard hours in unsuitable weather conditions. However for several years, since he was 15 he has been drinking, he only drinks beer. He don't drink while @ work, but as soon as he gets off in the afternoon that's the 1st thing he turns to. In the mornings as soon as he wakes up, he will drink beer & nothing else. So basically what i'm saying is from morning to bedtime he is a fish with beer, there is an 8 hour gap during day while working & that's it. Weekends roll around starting on Friday afternoon that's the only thing he has in his hands is a beer 1 right after another, skipping meals as well. Now here is the part I just don't understand, it takes over a 30 pack to get him drunk, & really when I say drunk for him its really not so because he remains focused, civil, a gentleman, observant, communicates, but yet has drank well over 30 beers, yes he will stagger around when he walks, but also knows everything he is doing because the next day he can repeat step by step of everything. I have tried over & over to help him, make him slow down, show him the damage hes is doing to himself & consequences. He does not drink & drive, he is not a bar hopper either. He does all his drinking inside his home, shuts himself up & sinks into a depression state of mind, becomes negative & has negative thoughts about life & himself. He has had a very rough life, meaning he has had 2 divorces, his own family has blew him off because they are tired of seeing him in these conditions. He has said over & over that there is no help that will cure him, he refuses any help, also says that he has to drink to be a person to be himself. If he don't have the beer he is not a person to be around, he will be grumpy, hateful, mean, negative, & will literally kill himself if he don't have beer. I have fallen into the habit to supply it for him, go on the beer runs all the time, because if I don't he will try driving, walking, or any other source to retrieve his beer. Hes an awesome, loving, funny man most of the time during drinking. I personally don't understand how he can drink so much & still act normal. I need help, he needs help, but he refuses even talking about it, saying I'm beyond help & I don't want help. He has said he will never give up drinking as long as hes alive & very firm when he says these things. He has had very sad times in his life, childhood to now. These are excuses I know, but he don't. I have watched him lose weight, eye color is yellow, & if I don't force him to eat, he wont eat either. Professional help for him is completely out of the question, so don't even recommend that to me. I want to know how I can help him without him knowing. Such as is there any over the counter medication, natural remedies, or any other techniques that I can try on my behalf to slow the drinking down. Cold turkey will kill him, in the mornings he will shake severely until he gets the beer inside his system. There has to be something out there, that I can do. Medicines that I can get him to take somehow, without him knowing what its for. It hurts me knowing that I'm not helping him to the best for his health. What can I do. If I do anything it has to be behind his back without him catching on. He has no problem taking vitamins that I buy for him. Please help me to help him with advice that is going to be successful, otherwise do I just let him die. I have tried Doctors with him, I have tried counseling, I have talked & talked with him to the point hes winning & I'm losing. I don't drink, but seeing a drinker waste his money & life away is killing me as well. I have got to find anything I can in my power to make him not crave it, want it, need it. How can I do this, if I cant get him up off the couch to eat or see a doctor for other medical conditions i'm truly at a loss. This is my last step asking all of you to help me to help him before its to late, which maybe already. I love him to death & will do anything to get him off the beer. It hurts me in the mornings watching him shake until the alcohol reaches his system. All of you out there that have experienced the same conditions, have went through the same, tell me what I need to do, as I have said 100% forget A,A, forget professional help. My help has to come in somehow as a secret or something. Maybe natural herbs that I can put in his food, or beer, any medication I can get for him to put in something or make him think its vitamins. I know this is not the correct way, but it is my only choice, all the rest I hav

  49. QUESTION:
A question about foods that help prevent disease?
I spoke to this doctor who agreed with me that a lot of disease can be related to the foods people eat. If someone is prone to get cancer or some other disease then healthy eating won't stop it. However, healthy eating can still save lives. Please read my opinion below...

For thousands of years people did not eat the crap that people eat today. Look at the eating habits today and the rise of illnesses i.e. irritable bowel syndrome, heart disease, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, bacterial overgrowth etc. Could there be a connection between the increase of these illnesses and the way people eat today? Let me explain...

Foods like Walnuts help fight against certain cancers, help depression, good for the heart, and help fight against other diseases. Things like grape juice is very good for the arteries in the heart and is also good for constipation. Certain fruits are good for the colon and help prevent colon cancer. Scientists believe that thousands of people who get colon cancer is related to the foods they eat. Not everyone, but many. Look at how common IBS is. Well, is it any wonder...

Lets say a working person has 2 bars of chocolate a day 5 days a week. That's about 40 bars a month. At dinner time they will go to the cafe and have a bacon cob, which = 20 a month. They also have 4 pints of milk a week for cereal and hot drinks. Milk today is not natural like it used to be. That's 16 pints a month. Then every Friday night after they have gone out drinking they have a juicy kabab. That's 4 kababs a month. So, in a month they are eating 40 chocolate bars, 20 bacon cobs, 16 pints of milk, and 4 kababs. Not to mention all the other unnatural foods that people buy from supermarkets, all this other fast food that is full of bad ingredience. Just think of all these things combined together how much crap your putting into your body. Is it any wonder why there are so many sick people? For thousands of years people did not eat the crap people eat today.

If you eat crap then expect to feel like it. I myself use to eat a lot of crap and now I have IBS and feel like crap very often. I now eat good foods to help fight against disease. I'm not saying healthy eating is a cure, but it can keep a person healthy and save your life.

    Your opinion?

    • ANSWER:
That's probably right. Cavepeople didn't eat meat apparently nor cereal of course. Many people have a Gluten intolerance or IBS because of cereals (it is believed).

Cancer is much increasing too. It used to be very rare, but now is really common. Arguably with heart health improving people are now getting cancer or degenerative diseases instead of heart attacks and strokes.

Pork is believed to much cause Bowel tumours. There are religions that forbid eating pigs. Apparently they are closest to humans in certain aspects. It could be the body rebels against this. If you look at people who eat much pork they can facially look piggy. Also, they can also look like penguins and even walk like them. Such are much at risk of several cancers.

I, for what it's worth, also suspect household chemicals, what with their carciogens. And I read all tumours have mo(u)ld in them. Nearly every building has fungal growths!

All the above though doesn't explain this: super-fit people and babies also get the "Big C".

  50. QUESTION:
heey, can you please read my speech about phobias?
I want you to read my speech about phobias.
Its not good so dont expect alot :P
and if you want you can give me ideas to add or edit if there is a spelling error and missing a word. Feel Free !!

What if I dropped a big hairy tarantula down your shirt or took you on a plane so high up in the air that the cars and people look like little ants? What if I turned off the lights and left you alone in the darkness. Will you panic? Shriek? Even collapse? Think of your worst fear. Imagine it . Is it painful for you ? Do you want it to go away? Good morning/afternoon Miss Bosnjak and fellow classmates that scaring you isn’t just a fear. It is stronger than a fear. It is a phobia.

What is a phobia? A phobia is a fancy name for fear. This isn’t just a normal kind of fear like hearing thunder or passing by a growling dog. A phobia is a very strong fear that doesn’t go away. If you have a phobia that means you will be afraid of something every time you see it or experience it.

Phobias can affect peoples lives. People with agoraphobia may have troubles leaving the house, meeting new people and having a job. Depression is very common in people who have an anxiety disorder. Depression may also cause them to do suicide.

Here is the top three common phobias:
    1. Arachnophobia: Fear of spiders ( a-rack-no-phobia)
    2.Claustrophobia: Fear of enclosed spaces
3.Necrophobia: Fear of dead things and dead itself

Here is the top three uncommon phobia:
    1. Ambulophobia: Fear of working
    2.Barophobia: Fear of gravity
3.Levophobia: Fear of objects to the left

    Phobias have three categories:
    Simple or situational phobia
Animal phobias. Animal phobias are fears caused by an animal or insect. For example: snakes, spiders, rodents, and dogs.
Natural environment phobias. Natural environment phobias are fears caused by objects found in nature. For example heights, storms, water, and dark.
Situational phobias. Situational phobias are fears triggered by a specific situation. Example enclosed spaces , elevators, flying, dentists, driving, tunnels, and bridges.
Blood-Injection or Injury phobia. Blood-injection or injury phobia involves fear of blood, fear or injury, or a fear of shots or another medical procedure.

    Social phobia
Social phobia occurs when there is a fear of social situations, such as small groups of people at parties. People with social phobia have no confidence with people they don't know, and fear that strangers are being critical of them. They may also fear that they will behave in an embarrassing way, such as blushing or shaking in public.

    Agoraphobia
Agoraphobia is the fear of being in any situation that might cause a panic attack or which escape may be difficult

When you have a phobia and you are forced or have to go through with it that person will get nervous or have a panic attack. A panic attack is when a person starts to sweat, shake and breath heavily. A panic attack can cause someone to think something awful is going to happen, that he or she can't escape, or they might lose control.

    Treatment
If the object of fear is easy to avoid the person with that fear has no need to seek treatment. One way to treat a phobia is to expose yourself to that object or situation. This is called behavior therapy, which is one of the best ways to treat phobias. Another way to cure a phobia is to take drugs or medications. You can also take relaxation and breathing exercises which help reduce anxiety symptoms.

Everyone has a phobia. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is. It could be spiders, heights, and even pencils. it’s a part of everyday’s life.
its 3:16 min but it has to be 3-5 min and i'm scared i will talk to fast.
So if you can help me add more or help me on the ending.

    • ANSWER:
don't say 'phobia is a fancy word for fear' say something like phobia means fear in latin.

people don't 'do suicide' they commit suicide.

list the kinds of phobias in one sentence (you seem to have five, btw, not three) then list examples of them in the same order.

'When you have a phobia and you are forced or have to go through with it that person...' try: when a person is forced to be associated with their phobia....

and in general combine some short sentences to make it flow. i think it's excellant besides that :)
